Federalism

It is a form of government in which there is more than one level of government.
 

Two forms of government

Unitary forms

1. There is only one level of government.
2. Such Kind of government is found in his country has small areas and a low population.
3- Central government has more Powers than the state government.
4- State governments are answerable to the central government.
Unitary ex- China, Nepal, Bhutan

Federal Forms

1- There is more than one level of government.
2- Central government and state government enjoy almost equal Powers
3- State governments are not subordinate and not answerable to the central government.
Federal ex- India, Belgium,Spain, and the U.S

A key feature of Federalism

1- There is more than one level/ tier of government.
 2- Each level of government has its own Jurisdiction in the field of legislation taxation & administration.
3- The Jurisdation in each tier is specified in the Consitution their authority and existence are constitutionally guaranteed.
4- Any fundamental change in the constitution can not be done unilaterally It can be done by consent both of governments
5- Court has the power to Interpret the constitution and the power of level of government.
 6- Each level of government enjoys financial autonomy in the matters of the source of revenue.

8- Federalism has dual objects.
• To save guard and promoted unity of the country.
•To accommodate social diversity an Ideal federal system is based on natural trust & Agreement to live together.
